A calf making its entrance into the world, a hen running through tall grass to get the best bug, pigs munching on walnuts, goats waiting to be milked... these are all a part of Howard Family Farms of Moundsville, West Virginia.

We're a small, local, first-generation farm striving for sustainability, beyond-organic farming practices, and happy healthy animals that provide your family with premium nutritious food.

It all began when Kevin was a little boy plowing his bedspread with his toy tractor dreaming of someday farming. Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, Katie was growing up with a few livestock on her family's hobby farm and dreaming of becoming a vet... until she realized how long she'd be in school! So, Katie chose a different occupation but still loved animals. Just before their wedding in 2012, Kevin and Katie got 5 feeder steers to add to the flock of ~25 laying hens that Kevin had purchased the year before. The rest is history! Since then we've added lots more cows, goats, meat chickens, pigs, a dairy cow, a dog, a few farm cats, turkeys, and two kiddos (John & Grace) that we love more than anything! We look forward to serving your family and are so grateful for the privilege to be living our dream and also providing you with quality that we stand behind.

Why?

“Why do farmers farm, given their economic adversities on top of the many frustrations and difficulties normal to farming? And always the answer is: "Love. They must do it for love." Farmers farm for the love of farming. They love to watch and nurture the growth of plants. They love to live in the presence of animals. They love to work outdoors. They love the weather, maybe even when it is making them miserable. They love to live where they work and to work where they live."
